Top 3 Tips to Get a Brighter Smile During National Smiles Month
May 16th through June 16th is officially National Smiles Month 2022. At Cardinal Dental, we’re celebrating by helping our patients feel proud and happy to show off their smiles. One simple way to create a more beautiful smile that makes you happy to grin is by whitening and brightening your teeth.
Top 3 Tips for a Brighter and Whiter Smile
1. Avoid Foods and Beverages That Stain
Teeth can become discolored for several reasons. The most common is staining from the foods and drinks we consume. You can limit the staining of your teeth by avoiding highly pigmented foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, dark-colored colas, red wine, berries, and chocolate. If you do consume these foods, rinse your mouth out with water after you have finished.
Additionally, you should refrain from using tobacco products of any kind, as tobacco also stains the teeth. Plus, they are exceptionally damaging to your overall oral and general health.
2. Practice Good Oral Hygiene
Teeth can also become discolored as a result of the plaque and tartar that build up on the surface of the tooth enamel. This buildup can create a yellowed appearance. Brushing and flossing at least twice a day using the proper techniques in addition to oral care tools and products that have been approved by the American Dental Association will help you remove plaque from your teeth and prevent the accumulation of tartar.
You should also visit the dentist twice a year for a professional dental cleaning during which your teeth will be scaled and polished to remove tartar buildup and surface stains.
3. Use Teeth Whitening Products Approved by the American Dental Association
You can also use over-the-counter teeth whitening toothpaste, mouthwash, strips, or gels to brighten your smile at home.
