Do you have dental insurance? If so, have you ever wondered how to make sense of it? Cardinal Dental in La Mesa, Ca. is here to help you understand your dental insurance.
Why Is It Important To Understand Your Dental Insurance?
It’s important to understand your dental insurance in order to ease your financial concerns about obtaining and paying the latest in dental care.
What Will My Dental Insurance Cover?
Your dental insurance will almost always cover some of the cost of your dental care. For some procedures such as a checkup insurance may even cover 100% of the cost. For other procedures, however, you will have some out of pocket cost called a co-payment (“co-pay”). That co-payment will vary depending on the type of treatment required. There are some procedures where your co-pay may be very little, and others where it may be larger. Every plan also has what are called “exclusions and limitations”. There are no dental plans that pay 100% of the cost of all dental procedures.
How Long Will I Have to Wait Before My New Dental Insurance Takes Effect?
Many dental insurance plans require a specified amount of time to pass after enrollment before coverage takes effect, this is known as a waiting period. The good news is waiting periods for preventive care are typically very short or non-existent. At Cardinal Dental we are familiar with the waiting periods for most dental plans.
What Is The Difference Between an HMO and a PPO?
HMO dental plans generally offer a more limited choice in where you can receive dental care but provide greater benefits than PPO plans. PPOs provide more flexibility in your choice of dental provider but are more limited in the amount of treatment they will pay for in any given year. Also, it’s important to understand that PPO dental coverage does not roll over into the next calendar year. This means that if your PPO pays $1,500 per year in dental care and you do not use any dental services that year, no portion of the $1,500 amount will roll over into the next year, i.e. “use it or lose it.”
How Do I Choose the Best Dental Insurance Plan?
If you have a choice in dental plans it’s critical to compare them, but it can be very confusing. Different dental coverage providers charge different prices for coverage and vastly different treatment coverage within their insurance packages. At Cardinal Dental we are happy to help you select the plan that best meets the dental needs of you and your family.
How Do I Know If My Dentist Accepts My Dental Insurance?
Just ask! Give your dental office a call to ask if they accept your insurance plan; the information also may be available on their website. At Cardinal Dental in La Mesa, California, we are a preferred provider for most PPO and HMO companies and accept a large variety of insurance plans. If you have questions about whether Woodside Dental accepts your dental insurance, please give us a call at (619) 345-7999.
