Directions to Our Practice
If you’ve never been to our practice before, here are two easy routes you could take, using the La Mesa Branch Library as a starting point:
- Get onto University Ave heading northeast, then turn left onto Baltimore Dr, then right onto El Cajon Blvd. Get onto the I-8 briefly and take the 14A exit onto CA-125. Take exit 18D toward Fletcher Pkwy. Take a very sharp right onto Fletcher Pkwy, and then the first right into our parking lot. We’re at 8960 Fletcher Pkwy D.
- If you’d prefer to avoid the freeway, take Baltimore Dr north to Fletcher Pkwy and turn right. Then stay on Fletcher Pkwy all the way to the underpass, then turn left into our parking lot immediately after that.
How Much Local History Do You Know?
Nestled in San Diego County, the city of La Mesa holds a history as deep and layered as its geographical namesake. The name “La Mesa” is Spanish, meaning “the table” or “the plateau,” a nod to the area’s distinct topography. Initially part of the vast Mission San Diego de Alcalá tract, the land was valued by early Spanish missionaries and later by Mexican and American settlers for its precious natural springs.
In 1868, the foundation for modern La Mesa was laid when stockman Robert Allison purchased 4,000 acres, establishing what would become the heart of the community. The significant natural springs on this land, originally known as the “Allison” springs, were fittingly renamed the “La Mesa Springs.” The enduring importance of water to the city is still celebrated today, notably through the prominent thoroughfare “Spring Street” running through downtown, and the preservation of the historic spring house in Collier Park.
La Mesa was formally founded in 1869 and later incorporated as a city on February 16, 1912. Today, this vibrant community, whose official flower is the beautiful bougainvillea, maintains its unique character and deep roots, making it a wonderful place to live and receive care.
